The updated Reading Guidance (2023) seeks to encourage children to read broadly and to ensure access to a range of genres at an appropriate level go challenge and interest.

“Teachers should also be wary of restricting pupils to reading books from within one coloured level or band and labelling pupils as being on a specific colour.”
